Jade
1995 Linda Fiorentino, David Caruso
Paramount Pictures' Jade stars David Caruso, Linda Fiorentino and Chazz Palminteri in a psychological thriller about three people who find themselves caught in a terrifying web of power, passion and deceit when a prominent San Francisco socialite is brutally murdered. Directed by William Friedkin from an original screenplay by Joe Eszterhas, the film also stars Michael Biehn and Richard Crenna. The Robert Evans production and Adelson/Baumgarten production is produced by Robert Evans, Craig Baumgarten and Gary Adelson. Jade is a presentation of the Motion Picture Group of Paramount Pictures, part of the entertainment operations of Viacom Inc. David Corelli (David Caruso) is an ambitious assistant district attorney in San Francisco. While attending a black tie affair as the guest of his college friends Matt Gavin (Chazz Palminteri), a prominent lawyer, and his wife Trina Gavin (Linda Fiorentino), a clinical psychologist, David is called to the scene of a murder: the San Francisco home of a prominent millionaire. While investigating the crime, which leads all the way to the office of the governor of

California (Richard Crenna), David is confronted by the realization that Trina is a prime suspect in the murder and her husband is planning to defend her. "The film explores an interesting theme," says David Caruso. "Morality and justice are on the run in America. Corelli's pursuit is his way of attempting to keep justice on the playing field. If people with money can do what they want, what a lot more money in private practice, but they're about the rest of us?" Regarding the casting, producer Craig Baumgarten comments, "Friedkin has a tremendous instinct in terms of how he casts parts. He has a feel for who's right." Caruso remarks, "This was a great opportunity for me in that the characterization is based on restraint. In fact, I have very little dialogue and it's my reaction to situations that I'm using to create the arc of the story." "David Corelli is very good at what he does. He has to think and be resourceful on his feet because there are various parties who are trying to spin the story on him all the time. In my research for this film, I found it interesting that the assistant district attorneys in San Francisco could be making doing what they do because they love San Francisco. They believe in the city and don't want it destroyed." Linda Fiorentino says, "The interesting thing for me is the relationship between the three - who they grew up to be as adults and how the relationships with each other changed because of their separate experiences. There's also a Jaded aspect to every character in this script. I think if we've done our jobs correctly, there should be a sense from the first frame that everyone has a veneer and there is something else going on behind each and every person's facade." The actress received both the New York Film Critics and British Association of Film and Television Arts Best Actress awards for her performance in "The Last Seduction."
