Philippe is a specialist - a specialist in seducing widows. His method of meeting widows is quite refined. He studies the obituaries column in the newspaper to find out which women have recently lost their husbands. Then he goes to their houses and tips the housekeeper to find out relevant information about the widow (most importantly, her age.)

If he's still interested, he arranges to meet the widow, explaining that he knew her husband very well, owes all his success to the husband. invariably, he is successful.

Philippe knows all kinds of widows: The weeping widow in need of consolation; the joyful widow who couldn't wait to get rid of her husband and get on with her life; and perhaps the most interesting of all, the widow who uses the eroticism of her mourning clothes (especially the sexy black underwear) to seduce the men she meets.

Perhaps Philippe's calling in life is not a noble one. But it's certainly fun for everyone concerned.
