The Teacher
1976 Angel Tompkins
A little boat with "Diane" painted on its side rides at anchor. Harbor sounds mingle with the blowing wind and raucous cry of swooping gulls. On shore a deserted three-story warehouse looms dark and forlorn and through chinks in the boarding Ralph (Anthony James) a veteran just released from a mental hospital, peers through binoculars as Diane (Angela Tompkins), beautiful 28-year-old blonde school teacher takes out the boat, then disrobes and sunbathes. Lou his 18-year-old brother (Rudy Herrera, Jr.) having discovered Ralph's hideaway, now brings his friend Sean (Jay North) to spy on their provocative teacher, drooling as Ralph had done. In a fury, Ralph rushes at them with a big knife and in the ensuing scuffle Lou falls to his death in the alley below. Sean escapes with Ralph's false accusation of "Murderer, murderer," ringing in his ears. He believes the older man is capable of killing him also, as he threatens to do. At home he is restless, won't eat, goes to his room, with his mother, Mrs. Roberts

(Marlene Schmidt) indulging his moods and his father (Med Flory) demanding stricter discipline. Sheriff Murphy (Barry Atwater) comes to quiz the youth who lies and pretends to know nothing about his friend's death. Diane is a close friend of his mother's and living only a few doors away is a frequent guest for luncheon and pool parties. Her husband Russ (Richard Winterstein) is a drifter who has been away for over a year; everybody knows Diane is lonesome. She is also sex-starved and seduces Sean in her home. Their affair continues on her boat, and in her bedroom. Ralph who has been trailing them, has seen it all and is insanely jealous. At a local restaurant where the young teacher has taken Sean for dinner they get high on wine and are observed by a couple of well-dressed, aging gossips (Katherine Cassavetes and Lady Rowlands). When they leave the restaurant at closing time Ralph is waiting. They manage to elude him but Sean, now terrified, decides to tell how Lou died and reveals Ralph's threats. Rather than call the police that night his parents decide to consult with Mr. Roberts' brother, an attorney. Next morning they leave for town, advising Sean not to go out of the house. Of course he goes to Diane's. They are still in bed and Sean has just told Diane he loves her and wants to marry her when the phone rings. It is Russ who says he's returning home. Heartbroken and not waiting for the full conversation, Sean dresses and leaves. Ralph is waiting in Sean's van and forces him at knife-point to drive to the warehouse. There his cunning proves too much for the youth who is choked to death with a dog leash, then dragged out to the rickety platform outside Ralph's hideaway, three floors up. Minutes later Diane arrives looking for the boy. She is told Sean has gone and now it's just the two of them. He still holds a knife. Forcing Diane down onto a red coffin - where he stores his shotgun, bayonet, and knives - he rapes her. Quietly she picks up the knife from the floor ...

A CROWN INTERNATIONAL PICTURES RELEASE COLOR, RUNNING TIME: 98 Mm. ANGEL TOMPKINS STARS AS "WITH IT" TEACHER Angel Tompkins, it would be safe to say, has one of the most completely gorgeous faces and forms on the screen today. For any who doubt it, let them see "The Teacher" which currently is screening at the Theatre. Vital statistics don't tell much except that she is willowly-tall, slender, well proportioned, and is a blue eyed blonde who was born in California. It's what she does with it that counts and Angel has done plenty. In fact, she'll tell you herself that she's a good hustler-had to hustle her own jobs, first at modeling and from there into television. She's currently starring in Crown Inter. national's release "The Teacher" in which she portrays a provocative 28-year-old high school teacher living in a small town and sexually drawn to star pupil, an 18-year-old youth played by Jay North.
