The Takers
1972 Louise Douglas
On their heavy "choppers", E.J. and WILL prowl the streets of the city looking for kicks. E.J. has just won a fight with a rival biker, leaving him unconscious and half-dead. Now, he wants to celebrate. They pick up two teen-age girls and take them to their pad in the hills. E.J. supplies both pot and acid, and they all get stoned; but not too stoned to enjoy every kind of sex they can imagine. When WIL and E.J. have had their fill, they split - leaving the girls to come down as best they can. They need more money for booze and drugs, so they hold up a service station, killing the attendant when he tries to resist them. The bold, daylight robbery is successful, and E.J. and WIL get away clean. Their next encounter is with an attractive, young housewife who is meeting an out-of-town friend at the bus station. E.J. tries to pick her up, but is rejected by the two well-dressed women. They drive off, but E.J. and

WIL follow them. E.J. is determined to have "a party" with those "educated, social-type broads". WIL is hesitant, but EJ. talks him into the idea. They follow the car to an expensive home in the hills. After checking to make sure no one else is home, they break in, taking the two women by surprise. LAURA, the wife, tries to convince them to take whatever they want and leave, but the boys have other plans. Then a phone call from her husband shatters the little hope she had. He is on a business trip and E.J. listens as he tells LAURA that he won't be home for another week. Then he forces LAURA to strip and rapes her. WIL doesn't have as much trouble with LAURA'S girlfriend, BARBARA. She's single, likes sex, and she figures the best way to handle the situation is to cooperate. The boys might get bored after a while and leave. E.J. and WIL don't leave; they settle down for a good, long stay. At night, they all sleep together in the king-sized bed, with the girls' feet chained so they can't escape. The rest of the time, the girls are forced to wait on them and satisfy either or both on demand. LAURA is about to crack under the strain; when, late one night, her husband returns home unexpectedly from his trip. He enters the dark house cautiously. He saw the choppers in the garage and got his shotgun ready. He finds the four in bed, and has BARBARA call the police while he covers the men. WIL makes a break, and is shot. E.J. tries to get his gun, but LAURA grabs it and sobbing hysterically, empties it into his body. The ending of the film is too shocking to reveal. Suffice it to say that, without question, it is the most unusual and unexpected twist ending ever shown on the screen.
