The well appointed bar is Sammy's domain. Sammy, the universally ideal bartender, who sees and hears all, but reveals nothing. Into this convivial atmosphere assemble a cross section of humanity, each with his unique personality and hang-up; all of whom will share one common experience before the night ends, Ron is the cocky, young lady killer accompanied by an old friend, Dick, cheating on his wife for the first time in his two year old marriage, at Ron's provocation. Across the bar from them is Rice, the salesman who is "over-the-hill" in more ways than one. Ron's arrogant youth only amplifies his decline and he drinks himself into remembrances, shared with Sammy, when his conquests went unchallenged. In a flashback, Rice relives some of the warm and passionate hours he spent with his beloved Jennifer, when their beautiful, young and tanned bodies melded into one quivering, thrilling pulsation; (brilliantly photographed in tender color that makes this one of America's truly artistic films). Ron does not let the arrival of proud, black Galian and his friend go unnoticed. . . .
