The Big Switch
1970
John Carter (Sebastian Breaks) a young advertising art director and a man about town, visits Lulu's, a Chelsea discotheque. It is not long before he meets up with a pretty young blonde. Samantha (Erika Raffael), who suggests they return to spend the night at her flat.
Arriving there. John finds he is out of cigarettes and decides to slip out for some, leaving Samantha preparing for bed. As she enters the bathroom she is sadistically shot down by a gunman concealed in the shower. John returns to the flat to find her naked body but no sign of her assassin. His first inclination is to call the police but on looking around he finds evidence that Samantha was a drug addict and decides not to get involved and leaves without making the call.
Next morning John is summoned to the office of Hornsby Smith (Jack Allen) his managing director and dismissed without being given a reason. Later that evening he returns to his flat and is surprised to find three thugs and

a girl playing strip poker. They allege he owes them a large sum of money-a gambling debt of which he knows nothing-they beat him up and leave. John then receives a telephone call from Karl Mendez (Derek Aylward), who appears to know of John's troubles, and offers him a job - involving a mysterious trip to Brighton. He threatens that unless John takes it, the police will be informed of his connection with Samantha's death: John has no alternative but to accept. His companion on the trip is a frightened girl, Karen (Virginia Wetherell), a friend of Mendez.
At a Brighton flat John and Karen are greeted by two of Mendez's gang along with their girl-friends Cathy (Julie Shaw) and Jane (Jane Howard). They are then taken to a photographic studio and are stripped and photographed from all angles.
John overhears a telephone conversation in which plans are discussed to smuggle a deported gangster back into England. He also learns that he and Karen are being set up for a big switch-it is intended to bring the gangster and his wife into England by plane and then into a private nursing home where plastic surgery would transform them to resemble John and Karen, who would then be disposed of. Finally, John and Karen manage to escape but after a chase are eventually trapped in the ghost train on Brighton pier. After a bloody gun battle between Mendez and the police the whole operation is unmasked and John and Karen walk from the pier to resume their normal lives.
