study assignments before graduation. Lynn is assigned to Public Health, Priscilla to Psychiatry, Sharon to Pediatrics, and Phred to Obstetrics and Gynecology. Phred instantly gets into a scrape by mistakenly giving a patient an overdose. She is helped out by Dr. Jim Caspar (LAWRENCE CASEY), who asks her to return the favor by having dinner with him. They quickly become lovers, after an initial comic misunderstanding, and happily pursue their affair until Jim gives Phred's roommate, Priscilla, an abortion in Phred's own bedroom. This leads to a violent showdown between Phred and Jim and she drops him. Sharon's new assignment has her giving intensive care to an 18 year old boy afflicted with a terminal disease. Greg (DARRELL LARSON) knows he is going to die and at first is very nasty to Sharon. But in time, she wins him over and they develop a relationship of special trust that grows into love. To prove her love, Sharon even risks spending the night with him in his hospital bed. In the end, she must learn the hardest lesson of all-not to grow too attached to a patient-when Greg suddenly but inevitably dies. Lynn is warned in class not to render aid to an injured person outside the hospital, because she will open herself up to a malpractice suit if she does. When she witnesses a street fight in which a young Mexican-American revolutionary is injured, she does not give him first aid. Her indifference is recalled by Victor Charlie (RENI SANTONI), leader of the revolutionary group, when he brings the injured youth to the hospital and sees her there. They meet again when Lynn goes to his headquarters to make a follow-up call on the patient, and Victor converts her to his cause. Lynn sets up a free clinic in his store-front headquarters. And when there is a police raid, in which Victor shoots a policeman during a gun fight, Lynn decides to flee with the young outlaw. Priscilla looks for her kicks out in the world, where she meets Les (RICHARD RUST). He has long hair, rides a chopper, and persuades Priscilla to experiment with the underworld of drugs. She takes LSD with him on the beach and they make love. At first, their love-making is beautiful, but then she begins to have frightening hallucinations . . .. .
