understand why she cannot bring herself to love Mark, has spent a night with Rick Mcleod, a smalltime hood who hangs around the High Seas Bar. (Rick is living with Zina, whose brother, Lou controls Rick's money-making businesses.) The night Rick and Nancy spend together has made them realize that they are very compatible and could be very happy together.

Tanya knows that if Mark cannot have Nancy, he will try so hard to get her that he won't be able to give Tanya any of his time. Tanya, in order to keep Mark, hypnotizes Nancy. Under hypnosis Nancy is told by Tanya that whenever she is with Mark Hess, she will give into his desires and be most passionate. Nancy does feel different and she knows something is wrong. Mark having easily conquered the hypnotized Nancy, is still very excited about her. Nancy, after being with Mark for a few days and nights, goes out for some air. While outside, she meets Rick and tells him something strange has happened to her but she doesn't know what it is she asks Rick to help her.

Tanya and Mark take Nancy to dinner. Rick does some investigating and discovers that Tanya is a hypnotist. Suddenly everything makes sense to him. He realizes what has happened to Nancy and all he can think about is being with her even more. Before Rick can find Nancy he is confronted by Lou Vale, Zina's brother, who gives Rick the choice of either leaving town with just the clothes on his back, or reconciling with Zina and stop chasing other women, namely Nancy. Rick chooses to leave Zina. Rick although now penniless, knows that he wants Nancy and that she will want him as soon as she comes out of her hypnosis.

Finally, as Tanya breaks the spell on Nancy, Mark Hess realizing what has occurred, looks on in disbelief as he is now a destroyed man. Rick and Nancy embrace as Tanya sympathetically looks at Mark, a victim of his own carnal desires.
