Shannon's Women
1965 Kathleen Williams
Shannon's Women is almost a double feature in itself. It's about that part of Hollywood that makes the "sex-exploitation" films - the voluptuous models, the orgies before and behind the cameras, the directors and crew that take real and simulated sex for granted, to whom naked beauties are an everyday thing. Written and directed by WILLIAM ROTSLER, the best of the "sexploitation" film producers, Love, Hollywood Style is also a love story - something unique among the "throw-them-on-the-bed-and-rape'em" sex films. SHANNON CARSE plays the sex film director who uses his position to obtain his nightly "bed of flesh," but who falls in love with his "star", excellently portrayed by KATHLEEN WILLIAMS. There are complications, of course - Kathy finds Shannon using the same effective seduction ploy on busty PAT BARRINGTON that he used on her and she leaves him in a rage. But Kathy's image keeps coming back to Shannon again and again and he is at last forced to admit his love for her. This age-old "boy-meets-girl; boy-looses-girl; boy-gets-girl" theme
|
is freshly done with style, humor, excitement and some of the most realistic love scenes ever filmed. The supporting cast is excellent: PAT BARRINGTON (whose obvious assets seem to need no support), MARY WARNER and CHER CARR as two of the "orgy girls" and CHRISTINE THOMAS, whose air of wanton sexuality is delightful, amusing and erotic. All the male cast members (most of whom perform the functions in real life that you see on the screen) are very good, especially JAMES BRAND and ORLANDO FENWICK. It's a VOYAGE PRODUCTION. The film-within-the-film is shown in production, revealing for the first time, some of the behind-the-camera antics and action of the hottest Hollywood product.
