Ripped gently from life's pages, like a coupon from a magazine, the adults living out their roles in Sex Is The Game People Play exposes the deepest pre-occupation of us all, SEX.
LYON, ROY, ED & JOE play poker every week. The men's wives, LIL, GRETCHEN, RITA & PRISSIE, take a dim view of The Game. And yet is has become so firmly installed as a weekly ritual, that they have no idea how to break it up and restore the balance of payments in their houses.
Rita suggests that, if they can't lick 'em, they ought to join them. The women decide to crash the game, and seduce the men home.
The guys are appalled when the girls intrude on their weekly Roundtable . . . but they soon see that there is nothing they can do about it. Lyon, in particular, sees that possibly, a little Something Else might develop out of this peculiar situation -
Bowing to reality, the men accept the women into the game:

an act of sacrilege, but better than no poker at all. But the women play worse than the men, and there is general anguish as the money goes down the drain . . until Lyon suggests they stop losing money, and play for something the women will attach little value to:
What? . . Strip poker.
The stakes are suddenly higher now; his bets are tight, as the clothes are peeled away.
And with the clothes come the layers of artifice, pretense and sociality . . . right down to the raw nature of discontented young moderns. The crack in the picture window becomes a canyon.
When all the clothes are gone, what else do the women have to bet? Cookies? Steak dinners? Themselves?
As the banker tallies the chips, the wins and losses become as real as flesh and lust can make them . . . for desire is the ante and sex is blatantly at stake.
