Sensations is the signal for a new era in motion pictures containing explicit sex; it is the Rolls-Royce of pornographic movies. Made for a budget of $250,000 by Alberto Ferro (Lasse Braun), it combines the qualities of eroticism, that are the point of this kind of film, with substantial production values normally absent in the genre. The people in Sensations are special, attractive, well dressed, and interesting looking. There is no air of desperation. Unlike most American films of this type, there is no sense of 'sin' or misbehavior. Agree with the morality portrayed or not, one must admit that everyone seems to be having a good time and that, singularly, Sensations does not seem to be saying that the joys of the flesh go hand in hand with some kind of guilt or punishment. The quality of the production means that Sensations has a sense of size; the beauty of Amsterdam is part of the basic texture of the film. Writer-producer-director Alberto Ferro is better known under his corporate name, Lasse Braun, as the maker and distributor of the most imaginative and successful 8mm home films available. His only previous feature was "French Blue" which also starred Brigitte Maier, the star of Sensations.
