The kidnappers make a fast departure in another car and are brought to a halt by a blowout before Lennie can get Carolyn from the abandoned car. The FBI men immediately close in and the car is blown to pieces. Carolyn fortunately makes her escape only minutes before by climbing out from behind the rear seat.
