Passion in Hot Hollows
1965 Lola Valentine
Teaser Storyline for Passion in Hot Hollows For months the small mountain town of Hot Hollows has been blanketed by a stifling, sticky blanket of depression that has sapped energies and faded hopes. The mill, the area's principal source of income, has closed. Young men move listlessly through the streets, clinging to hope that the plant will reopen . . . a hope based on the vaguest of rumors. Jean Bullock, a handsome young widow who operates the small local hotel and bar, reflects the frustrations and tensions imposed by the tightness of money. Business is bad. People have no money to spend. The appearance of Norma Lou Bullock, Jean's younger sister, does not add to Jean's peace of mind. Especially since Norma Lou has appeared with a young male traveling "companion." Immediately childhood antagonisms froth to the surface. Norma Lou still resents Jean's being the favorite of the parents. She takes a warped view of the "good" sister. Jean has a dingy picture of her little sister's rebellions.

Meanwhile the tensions of the time are having their effect on Linda Sue Fenton and her husband Billy Joe, one of the many unemployed in the area. Linda Sue is tired of supporting Billy Joe and his motorbike. After an argument Linda Sue seduces Billy Joe's best friend Luke Herman as a means of lashing out at her husband. Billy Joe in turn finds solace in the arms of Anna Kovaks, a lonely young immigrant whose husband has been recently committed to a state mental institution. Norma Lou's resentments boil over. She delights in dredging up those secret weaknesses that the "good" sister possessed in her childhood. In anger Norma Lou vows to gain redress for what she had to suffer as a child. Norma Lou embarks on a campaign of excesses in the name of "kicks." Her final "kick" is to entice Linda Sue into bed with herself and Parker Greer, her companion. This soon pails. Norma Lou turns her attention to her sister. She conspires with Linda Sue and Parker. In the wee hours of morning Jean returns to her room after closing. The conspirators leap from the shadows and Parker rapes her. Then Norma Lou embraces her. Suddenly Jean realizes that much of the base image she had of Norma Lou were really reflections of her. In the morning she awakens to find Norma Lou and her companion leaving. Norma Lou has grown bored of it all, leaving Jean with a strange and newly stimulated yearning. . . one which she knows not where to place. Passion in Hot Hollows
