Mondo Erotica
1970
Mondo Erotica is more than a mere history of pornography; it is a sexual prospectus of things to come. The first segment is an absorbing analysis of six erotic cultures. The audience is able not only to explore the sexual mores of each culture but to have each sexual manifestation documented with authentic pornographic Art. From Greece and her phallic sculpture, we are introduced to the Pompeii frescos of Roman Erotica and then the bestiality of Persian paintings, the sensuality of Indian temples, the wit of Chinese drawings, and finally, the charm of Japanese prints. All done in the highest style and with the most delicate sense of color. Once the film has carefully documented the six ancient cultures, and presented their sexual proclivities, Mondo Erotica pushes courageously forward to an honest appraisal of our own Western civilization. Boldly pinpointing our sexual hypocrisy as evolving out of the Bible, the Puritan Revolution, and our own Victorian institutions. The film seems to infer: the ancients were free and natural in their sexual lives-we

are guilt-ridden and conscience-bound. Mondo Erotica takes us from the silent films and traces the hooks upon which the pornographer hangs his merchandise. From Freud and Kinsey, to Masters and Johnson, right up to Dr. David Rueben and his own candy-coated sexual morality. The point of view is always clear-modern pornography, according to this film, wouldn't exist if the moralists and the critics would stay out of the bedroom. It keeps repeating the facts; always with tongue in cheek. Mondo Erotica is a survey of acceptable sexuality as well as sexual deviation. The final sequence, "Orgy" apparently is the sexual pattern of the future. Mondo Erotica as a film, is where we have been, where we are at, and where we are going! An absorbing, stimulating and entertaining motion picture. Many movie goers, even those who have viewed such films before, will be amazed to discover that what has been arousing them for years has been arousing mankind for centuries! RUNNING TIME: 90 MINUTES
