We all remember things past with a bit of wishful thinking a'nd fantasy. We soften the rough edges and color the images to resemble the way w,e would have liked it to have been. But the memories, which form a foundation of our lives, are drawn initially from actual experience.
In the case of Aggie, a sixty year old woman who has never had any experience beyond a solitary existence in a desolate farmhouse, memories can only be nurtured by a hunger and a need for fulfillment. Aggie spent her life creating memories to the point where she could not deal with reality.
When faced with the possibility of an actual real-life experience she tragically destroys its existence because she cannot bear to lose it. She would rather convert it into her world of fantasy... and then carry on in that never-ending vacuum of reliving what never was. There, but for the grace of God and human contact, go us all.
