I, a Lover
1968 Jorgen Ryg
Teaser Storyline for "I - A Lover" Beatrice (Jessie Flaws) awakes one morning thoroughly disillusioned about her husband Peter (Jorgen Ryg) who lies snoring beside her. She picks up the books - all with overtones of sex - lying by her bedside and decides she'll have to leave Peter for her suitor Isak Anderson (Ebbe Langberg) and elope to Paris as he urges. "You haven't touched me for 14 days," she accuses her husband, "you're impotent." But on the way to the office, everything he sees makes Peter think about sex - flimsy negligees, titles on the theatre marquees, billboards. "Here I'm about to be cuckold," he moans. "And all I think about is sex!" But his worst worry is that all their friends will snicker behind his back. It proves to be wrong. Female curiosity being what it is the girls and women make a steady procession into and out of boudoirs just to see how impotent he really is. Peter discovers he is, if he can believe his

new senses and the girls' reactions, quite a lover. Sigrid (Kerstin Wartel) handsome middle-aged wife of his best friend, becomes his mistress, as does daughter Elizabeth (Marie Nylander) and that is only the beginning. When he consults the beautiful psychologist Dr. Ulla Pauce (Jeanne Darville) hoping to be cured of his growing and rather alarming appetites, he finds she is even more preoccupied with sex than he himself. Meantime, Beatrice having received an anonymous letter recounting Peter's prowess, howls with hurt pride and insists Isak take her home immediately. "The bounder-it's only with ME he's impotent," she wails. Isak realizes he'll never be able to cope with Peter's new reputation as a lover, and when he learns that Peter has lost his job, arranges for him to get a fine new position in far-off Rome. At first Peter refuses, then agrees when Isak brings up the matter of his supporting Beatrice with no money. At the airport Isak is very happy to wave his mistress' husband goodbye, and congratulates himself on his cleverness in disposing of his rival permanently. But - surprise, surprise! - what he doesn't know is that at that exact moment Beatrice is contentedly snuggling down in the seat next to her Peter, now no longer impotent. Maybe she's complimenting herself on having legal right to the man every woman in town has acknowledged is the greatest lover of them all!
