is guilt ridden. In order to rationalize away her pain, she talks lenny into seducing Walter, her husband. While lenny is with Walter, Betty has an excuse to find solace in the arms of Jarman.. She is shocked when he forces her to make love to a young maid while he watches. Beset by suspicion and jealousy and guilt, Betty believes that she has lost Walter to the young, appealing teenager. She gets caught up in another love bout with Jarman. An apparently outraged Doris appears to threaten the terrified Betty with a gun. She puts the gun against Betty's temple and pulls the trigger. When the hammer clicks against the empty chamber, Betty almost faints. Then Doris sadistically attacks Betty with the handle of the whip. Betty falls unconscious onto the bed. When she comes to, she sees Tenny making love to her own sister's husband. Betty is all the more shocked because she surmised Tenny was with Walter. Next to her she sees Doris and the young maid locked in an amorous embrace. The realization strikes Betty: The idea that Walt and lenny were lovers was wrong. Sick with shame and disgust she flees the orgy. She confesses her sin to Walter. Contrite at his own sins with lenny, he enfolds Betty sadly and protectively in his arms.
