Curious Female
1970 Angelique Pettyjohn
SYNOPSIS It's the way-out world of 2177 A.D. The living is free, easy, amoral - and sterile Master Computer is running the whole show to the point where freedom has run the gamut right back to a totalitarian society. Love, romance, families, all that medieval jazz are not only obsolete but forbidden by the big M.C., but there's one groovy girl in this vacuum culture who won't accept the status quo. Liana (Miss Bunny Allister) and her friend, Jorel (David Westberg), decided to screen old flicks - this one a 19S9 film entitled "The Three Virgins," and we become part of the futuristic audience nestled on an island in the Pacific (Los Angeles has become an island in the interim following a devastating earthquake), and we watch what the primitives - that's us - have to offer. The movie within a movie focuses on three university senior girls, statistically the only three virgins in the school, who through different circumstances become involved with a computer dating service, SELECT-A-MATE featuring C.U.P.I.D., the

electronic device. The girls' backgrounds vary like Beethoven and John Lennon but their unique quality draws them together. Joan (Bunny Allister) breaks her engagement to her longtime college steady, Paul Emerson (also Westberg), when he gives her an engagement ring, a vague promise of marriage and a demand that it's sex now or never. Joan chooses never-at least temporarily - and becomes the first eligible virgin for the computer. Pearl Lushcomb (Charlene Jones) is a striking young Negro girl with a lecherous uncle (Linc Kilpatrick) whose attempts to seduce her around home have completely turned her off sex. Her father and mother distrust her completely, treating her with little respect. Her frigidity and icy strength bring her to the computer's attention. Lack of a decent home life is the least of the problems of Susan Rome (Miss Pettyjohn). Religion, kindness, and understanding are all there, but these fail to abate her stronger physical emotions, and it's a constant running battle with each boy she encounters between an immediate need and an upbringing that keeps sounding loud and clear that sex without love is all wrong. When C.U.P.I.D. brings the three together, their bond leads them to talk freely. Joan wanting to hold out for marriage, Susan afraid that if she once tastes sex, she'll like it too much, and Pearl, who couldn't care less if 'She tries it or not except perhaps to satisfy an inner curiosity. The idea of curiosity catches their spirits, and they in their individual ways decide to give it a try.
