RUSS MEYER'S Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, RELEASED BY 20TH CENTURY-FOX
The opening of Russ Meyer's 20th Century-Fox production, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, was in 1970.
Described as a sexy, violent melodrama interspersed with nine sparkling new tunes, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls is a put-on of the rock music business with a group of uninhibited young persons moving in a milieu of permissiveness and a reckless indifference to consequences.
Beyond the Valley of the Dolls produced and directed by Meyer from a screenplay by Roger Ebert, was filmed in Panavision and De Luxe Color. The ads for the picture point out that "this is not a sequel--there has never been anything like it."
Boasting one of the largest casts of recent motion pictures, the film lists 55 speaking parts, headed by newcomers Dolly Read, David Gurian, Ed.y Williams, Erica Gavin, Cynthia Myers, Marcia I4cBroom, John LaZar, Michael Blodgett, Phyllis Davis, Harrison Page, Duncan McLeod and James Iglehart.
Of the nine songs featured in

the picture, five were written by Bob Stone and Stu Phillips, two by Phillips and Lynn Carey and two by Paul Marshall. They are performed by three rock groups, the well-known The Strawberry Alarm Clock and the Sandpipers, and a new group called The Carrie Nations.
A recent article in Newsweek Magazine, describing the ten-year career of Meyer, says he is "turning out the most sumptuous, trend-setting and technically expert skin- flicks in America".
