It Came From Outer Space

When scientist John Putnam (RICHARD CARLSON) and school teacher Ellen Fields (BARBARA RUSH) trace a strange light which has flashed across the Arizona desert skies they discover what they believe to be a rocket ship which has burled itself in a huge crater hole. Their attempt to investigate, however, is thwarted when the earth around the crater weakens and a resulting landslide completely buries the strange object under thousands of tons of earth.
When Sheriff Matt Warren (CHARLES Drake) and other townspeople from nearby Sand Rock arrive on the scene they fail to believe the "incredible" story told by the two young people. Not until strange happenings and unearthly noises are seen and heard in the vicinity, do the residents of Sand Rock admit that something "strange" is happening.
Putnam discovers that the "visitors" front space have escaped from the rocket ship, and that they have the ability to go about as almost invisible mists, or take on various forms including that of the human being.
Putnam is also convinced that

the "visitors" have "kidnapped" several townspeople and have substituted themselves in their places. When Ellen disappears, Sheriff Warren accepts Putnam's theory and the community moves into action.
Knowing that Ellen and the other "captives" are in danger if the "visitors" are not allowed to leave the earth, Putnam dynamites the crater and the space ships zooms into the celestial orbit. Ellen and the other "captives" are left behind to resume normal lives.
