The Ring
2002 Naomi Watts
It sounded like just another urban legend-a videotape filled with nightmarish images, leading to a phone call foretelling the viewer's death in exactly seven days. As a newspaper reporter, Rachel Keller (Naomi Watts) was naturally skeptical of the story, until four teenagers all met with mysterious deaths exactly one week after watching just such a tape. Allowing her investigative curiosity to get the better of her, Rachel tracks down the video. . .and watches it. Now, she must enlist the aid of her friend Noah (Martin Henderson) to save her life and the life of her son (David Dorfman). Together, they have just seven days to unravel the mystery of "The Ring." A remake of one of Japan's biggest box office hits ever, "The Ring" was directed by Gore Verbinski ("The Mexican," "Mouse Hunt"), and produced by Walter F. Parkes ("Gladiator," "Men in Black 2") and Laurie MacDonald ("Gladiator," "Men in Black 2") from a screenplay by Ehren Kruger. The suspense thriller stars award-winning actress Naomi Watts ("Mulholland Drive") and

Martin Henderson ("Windtalkers"), and also stars young actor David Doriman (upcoming "A Wrinkle in Time") and Emmy winner Brian Cox ("Nuremberg," "The Bourne Identity"). The main cast also includes Richard Lineback, Daveigh Chase, Lindsay Frost, Pauley Perrette, Amber Tamblyn and Rachael Bella, with a cameo appearance by Jane Alexander. The film is executive produced by Mike Macan, Roy Lee and Michele Weisler, with Neal Edelstein and J.C. Spink serving as co-executive producers. "The Ring" is based on the novel The Ring by Koji Suzuki and on the motion picture "The Ring" by The Ring/The Spiral Production Group. NAOMI WATTS (Rachel Keller) earned widespread acclaim for her work in David Lynch's controversial drama "Mulholland Drive," which premiered at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival. Watts' portrayal of the aspiring actress Betty brought her Best Actress Awards from a number of critics organizations, including the National Society of Film Critics and the Chicago Film Critics, among others. In addition, she was named the Female Star of Tomorrow at the 2002 ShoWest Convention, and received the Breakthrough Acting Award at this year's Hollywood Film Festival. Watts will next be seen in the offbeat romantic comedy "Plots With a View," in which she stars with Brenda Blethyn, Alfred Molina, and Christopher Walken. She also stars in three films due out next year: "21 Grams," with Sean Penn and Benecio Del Toro; "The Kelly Gang," with fellow Aussies Heath Ledger and Rachel Griffiths; and the Merchant-Ivory production "Le Divorce," in which she joins an ensemble cast, including Kate Hudson, Glenn Close and Stockard Channing. Born in England, Watts moved to Australia at the age of 14 and began studying acting. Her first major film role came in "Flirting," directed by John Duigan, who later cast her in his provocative drama "Wide Sargasso Sea." Watts' subsequent film credits include "Gross Misconduct," "Tank Girl" and "Dangerous Beauty." Last year, Watts produced and starred in the short film "Ellie Parker," which screened in competition at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival and for which she received the Best Actress in a Short Film Award from the Method Fest. On the small screen, Watts most recently starred in the cable movie "The Outsiders," for director Randa Haines. Her other television credits include the BBC drama "The Wyvern Mystery," opposite Derek Jacobi; the NBC telefilm "The Hunt for the Unicorn Killer"; the HBO movie "Persons Unknown," with Joe Mantegna and Kelly Lynch; "Timepiece," starring James Earl Jones; and the British miniseries "Brides of Christ."
