Based on a factual occurrence involving grave robbing and cannibalism, THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE, a Bryanston Pictures release, opened in 1971. The film, conceived and directed by 30 year old, Texas born, Tobe Hooper details a reign of terror created by an insane family in a sparsely populated part of Texas. Realism being the key note, interior sets are actually constructed of animal and human bones and a mask worn by one of the killers (justifiably named "Leatherface") was molded from human flesh. Whereas many "scare" films are compared to the classic "Psycho", the makers of THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE believe their film to be the most terrifying of all. Click here for more
