Tarantula
1955 John Agar
Teaser Storyline for Tarantula When two scientists die under mysterious circumstances with greatly swollen features near Desert Rock, Arizona, suspicion is cast on their remaining colleague, Prof. Gerald Deemer (LEO G. CARROLL). Dr. Matt Hastings (JOHN AGAR) thus investigates the subsequent mysterious killing of human beings as well as herds of cat-tie on the theory that a giant Tarantula, escaped from Deemer's lab under the influence of dangerous nutrient injections, ~s the killer. Deemer discovers that he has been injected while unconscious during a light with one of the mad scientists who died in agony experimenting on themselves. Approaching his own death he explains to a new female colleague, scientist Stephanie Clayton (MARA CORDAY) that he has been on a search for an atomically stabilized nutritional formula which will feed the world's masses when they grow too large for the food supply In a few generations. The Un- stabilized nutrient is fatal when injected and causes its victims to swell abnormally. The Tarantula, bigger than a barn, attacks the town

which is defended by Dr. Hastings and a group of highway patrolmen, but they are almost destroyed by the monster. The Air Force sends a pair of jets just in time to drop napalm bombs on the creature, thus burning it to death, and leaving Mr. Hastings and Stephanie to walk arm in arm down the deserted streets of the town.
John Agar does battle with a spider bigger than a two story house in his co-starring role with Mara Corday and Leo G. Carroll in Universal-International's science-fiction thriller, Tarantula and says that destiny marked him for the role. As a child Agar was bitten by a Tarantula and spent a week in the hospital when the poison laid him low.
