In the eerie dawn, Dr. Carl Stoner (STROTHER MARTIN), famed ophiologist (snake expert) is concluding the sale of the mysterious and flailing contents of a long, coffin-like box being carried from the cellar of his house-laboratory to the truck of the owner of the circus freak show, Kogen (TIM O'CONNOR). Later that day, Dr. Stoner drives to the nearby university musing along the way about man's destructive pollution and waste of his natural resources to his only passenger, Harry, a 12-foot red boa Constrictor. He goes to the head of the Ophiology Department, Dr. Ken Daniels (RICHARD B. SHULL), and though the two men are obvious enemies, Dr. Daniels recommends David Blake (DIRK BENEDICT) for the job of student assistant to Dr. Stoner in his lab. David finds an added dividend on the job - his employer's attractive daughter, Kristina (HEATHER MENZIES). But there is one drawback; he must take regular injections of a King Cobra venom serum for immunization The romance of the two young people grows into an affair, and the venom

shots continue. Soon David discovers that his skin has started to peel, snake-fashion. Puzzling incidents take place. The sheriff is curious about David's predecessor; a bully and school-hero athlete who kIlls the pet snake Harry when he breaks into the house in an attempt to rape Kristina, is found dead in his shower shortly after, an apparent heart-attack victim; and Dr. Daniel, who pays a surreptitious call on Dr. Stoner, is caught by Dr. Stoner and fed to a reptile and is completely consumed. The tip-off comes when the circus comes to town and David sees the Snake Man exhibit, and he and Kristina realize what is happening to David
