Midnight
1970 Lawrence Tierney
Independent-International Pictures Corp. Presents John Russo's Midnight The screams of a young girl caught in an animal trap pierce the air as her rescuers rush to her aid. A mother, her three Sons and a daughter study the frightened child as the woman identifies her as a "demon" and orders young Luke to club her. At Midnight, the child is sacrificed at a black mass. Years later, in the town of Lewisburg, young Nancy Johnson confesses her indiscretions with a former boyfriend, to her priest. At home, Nancy contends with her drunken stepfather Bert, a policeman who thinks she may be ripe for seduction. After knocking him unconscious, Nancy runs out of the house and determines to hitchhike to her sister's home in California. She's picked up by two youths, Tom and Hank, one white the other black. The two persuade her to accompany them to Fort Lauderdale, neglecting to say that they steal groceries because of a lack of funds. Along the way, the three stop in a redneck

town and give a lift to a black minister, Reverend Carrington, and his daughter Sandra. The Carringtons are savagely murdered by a huge man named Cyrus, whom the three youths nearly hit with their van as they elude two deputies. That night, after Hank berates Nancy for singing a black spiritual, Tom manages to comfort her. In the morning, she rises early for a walk in the woods as two policemen rouse Tom .and Hank and accuse them of murdering a young woman. Nancy watches in horror as the policemen kill both Hank and Tom and then chase her to a house where she's captured and put into a cage alongside another young woman, Gwen Davis. The "policemen" prove to be Abraham and Luke, brothers of Cyrus and priestess Cynthia. With Gwen, Nancy and another young woman, Sharon, as sacrifices to Satan, they intend to use the females' blood to purify the rotted corpse of their mother. Sharon is sacrificed on Good Friday and Gwen the next Midnight leaving Nancy as the final victim on Easter Sunday. A now concerned Bert, however, has followed leads which have bought him close to the Satanic family's lair. As Nancy prays for her soul, her fate is decided. A bloody climax brings the horror directly to her.
