Earth Dies Screaming

1965       Virginia Field

Teaser Storyline for Earth Dies Screaming

On one bleak March day in Britain, the streets are devoid of human life. Cars have crashed into buildings and dead bodies are seen everywhere, frozen in the attitudes in which death struck mysteriously and without warning.

The only movement is a station wagon, slowly being driven by Jeff Nolan (WILLARD PARKER), an experimental test pilot. After piloting a plane for a few hours, he returned to Earth to discover that the human race had been exterminated by some unknown horror.

He enters a hotel and clicks on a short-wave radio, but on all stations he hears nothing but a high-pitched whine. Suddenly a man brandishing a pistol enters the room. When he is certain that Jeff is not an enemy he introduces himself and his wife. They are Quinn Taggett (DENNIS PRICE) and Peggy (VIRGINIA FIELD), who explain that when they left a room in a hospital, they found that everyone was dead.

As the three set out to explore the town, they

discover Edgar Otis (THORLEY WALTERS) and Violet Courtland (VANDA GODSELL), who have just left a room at a chemical factor where the air was purified.

Suddenly two menacing robot-like monsters appear. All run away except Violet who tries to communicate. One of the monsters touches Violet and she crumples to the ground, dead.

The four survivors realize that the destruction is not man-made. Jeff fires his rifle at them, but they are not harmed by the bullets. The survivors retreat to a hotel to consider plans for action, and are joined by Mel (DAVID SPENSER) and his pregnant wife, Lorna (ANNA FALK).

During the night, Violet returns from the dead-a blinded, mindless tool of the aliens, bent on the destruction of her former friends. The next victim is Taggett, and the diminishing company tries to comfort each other and protect the mother-to-be.

Jeff and Mel decide that the robots must be directed by a transmitting station, which if put out of action, would render them useless. They decide to search for the station.

During their absence, Lorna's baby is born in an abandoned drill hail. Suddenly the door bursts open and two gigantic robots enter. The terrified women try to shield the baby as the monsters approach. Within inches of the women they suddenly collapse to the floor. Mel and Jeff have succeeded in destroying the transmitter.

The men return and are reunited with Lorna and Peggy. The baby, their hope for the future, sleeps peacefully as they plan to find an airplane and search for other survivors.
