Dark Places
1973 Christpher Lee
Storyline Teaser for Dark Places As Andrew Marr (ROBERT HARDY) lies dying in a mental institution, he is visited by his only friend, hospital administrator Edward Foster (ROBERT HARDY). The old man asks Foster to take care of his home and money until the return of his wife and two children. The money is hidden behind a wall, but before Foster can discover which wall, Marr dies, uttering the words, "Alta, dear God, forgive me." As Foster leaves the room, Dr. Mandeville (CHRISTOPHER LEE), the physician who had Marr committed, enters. Despite rumors of strange occurrences at the dust-laden Marr Grove, Foster is determined to move in and locate the hidden 210,000 Pounds. As he approaches, the wooden bridge under his feet collapses. Slightly injured, he is driven to the town physician Dr. Mandeville. The doctor is visibly shaken when he discovers that Foster has inherited the house, and that he will be staying with Prescott (HERBERT LOM), Marr's lawyer, until the mansion is fit for habitation. Both men are interested

in the money, and believe Foster knows where it is. Foster enters the disorderly mansion. To his surprise, however, the enticing Sarah Mandeville (JOAN COLLINS), sister of the doctor, comes to offer her services as housekeeper-companion. She, however, in cahoots with her brother, will hang around in case Foster should produce the money. Although the mansion is strewn with children's dolls, with obscenely smashed faces, Foster has already learned that Marr's children will not be returning. Both the children and their mother were mysteriously murdered many years ago, the incident responsible for Marr's insanity. Although frightened, Foster will not allow this somebody or something to defeat his purpose. And, although many of the minor strange occurrences are the work of the doctor and his sister, trying to get rid of Foster, they are not responsible for the spirit and personality of Marr that seems to be possessing Foster. It is Foster, however, who is the murderer this time. It seems that he was not an administrator, but an inmate of the institution, discharged the day following Marr's death. Obviously still insane, he has murdered Sarah, under the delusion that he was Marr, and Sarah, his wife. Dr. Mandeville after discovering Foster's status at the hospital, rushes to the mansion. Foster, having recovered his rationality, hears the doctor at the door. Confused and frightened, he murders the doctor when he discovers the body of his sister.
