Blood and Lace
1971 Gloria Grahame
Teaser Storyline for Blood and Lace Edna Masters (LOUISE SHERRILL), a small town prostitute and her bed partner are killed in their sleep by a mysterious murderer who bludgeons them both with a hammer and sets the house afire. As a result, Edna's daughter, Ellie Masters (MELODY PATTERSON) is orphaned and, although well in her teens, is sent to a local orphanage by a social worker, Mr. Mullins (MILTON SELZER). The orphanage is an aging mansion operating on a shoestring by Mrs. Deere (GLORIA GRAHAME) with the help of a handyman, Tom Kredge (LEN LESSER). Barely holding onto the community contract through the influence of the social worker, who is also her paramour, Mrs. Deere and Tom conceal runaway attempts by children in order to maintain the allotments for each child, even to the extent of killing those who attempt to flee and storing their bodies in the basement freezer. Unwilling to go to the orphanage, Ellie attempts to run away but is stopped in her escape attempt by Calvin Carruthers

(VIC TAYBACK), a detective who tells her he is working on the case and questions her about the killing. She tells him she keeps getting nightmares about a heavy-set man with a hammer. He insists that she go to the orphanage as directed and she is taken there by Mr. Mullins. At the orphanage, she explores the house and discovers a young girl, Jennifer (MAGGIE COREY), imprisoned in the attic, dying of thirst. She attempts to bring water to the girl but is stopped by Tom. He tells her he will help her escape if she will cooperate. But, meeting him in the basement, he attempts to rape her. She struggles with him and her screams bring Mrs. Deere who stops Tom's attack. Ellie also finds herself in competition for the favors of a handsome lad among the group with Bunch (TERRI MESSINA), a 16-year-old-sexpot. Ellie reveals to the young man, Walter (RONALD TAFT), that her mother had once said Ellie's real father was the first man who had made love to her. Bunch tempts the young man into a storage shed and tricks Ellie into walking into the shed just as the couple are making love on a couch. This infuriates Ellie and she vows she is running away from the orphanage. The lad tips off Mrs. Deere and Tom who now decide that Ellie must be killed and stored away with the other bodies in the freezer. Tom catches Ellie in the house and drags her down to the basement where she is thrown into the freezer. Mr. Mullins, the social worker, now arrives at the house in a fury, demanding an exact count of all the children in the house inasmuch as his job has been threatened. Mrs. Deere and Tom take him down to the basement where he insists on examining the freezer. They open it and, as he enters, Tom kills~ him with a cleaver. But, before Tom can close the door, a heavy set figure wearing a plastic mask attacks Tom. During the fight, Ellie recovers consciousness and escapes from the freezer. Tom is knocked unconscious and the mysterious assailant chases after Ellie. Mrs. Deere drags Tom into the freezer to dispose of him but is trapped as Jennifer, the attic prisoner, slams the door shut on her. Pursued across the fields by the masked intruder, Ellie runs for her life ...
