Asylum
1972 Peter Cushing
In Asylum, you have nothing to lose but your mind. Asylum is stark raving terror from Robert Bloch, the author of "Psycho," and from the creators of such previous Cinerama Releasing horror-suspense hits as "The House That Dripped Blood" and "Tales From The Crypt." Asylum follows the sensationally-successful film formula of Max J. Rosenberg and Milton Subotsky's earlier hits in that it is a multi-tale picture tied together within one framework. Peter Cushing, Britt Ekiand and Barbara Parkins star in Asylum which tells the terrifying account of a young doctor who faces challenging assignment of identifying the former director of a British Asylum for the criminally insane -- now one of the maddened Asylum inmates. Asylum also stars Herbert Lom, Patrick Magee, Barry Morse, Robert Powell, Charlotte Rampling, Sylvia Syms, Richard Todd and James Villiers. Rosenberg and Subotsky have again produced a screenplay by the acknowledged king of horror film writing, Robert Bloch. Although it was Hitchcock's "Psycho" that first made Bloch famous on an international level, the novelist-screenwriter

has written any number of screenplays, most recently "The House That Dripped Blood." The Director of Asylum is Roy Ward Baker who, with this film, celebrates his 25th year as a director of motion pictures. The London-born Mr. Baker has also been responsible for "Don't Bother to Knock" with Marilyn Monroe, "The One That Got Away," "The Singer Not the Song" and the highly-acclaimed "A Night to Remember." He has also directed a number of episodes for such British-made TV shows as "The Saint,' "The Avengers" and "The Persuaders." Asylum comes to the U.S. direct from London where it was a smash hit at the Universal Piccadilly Circus. The picture has also been something of an amazement both in and out of the film industry as a model of professionalism in that its world premiere was held only 16 weeks after first day of shooting. Asylum was shot at the Shepperton Studios with location scenes shot in the Shepperton area near London.
