Amityville Horror

1979       James Brolin

American International's taut and suspenseful drama, "The Amityville Horror," one of the most eagerly awaited films of recent years, opened in 1979. Based on Jay Anson's runaway non-fiction best seller, "The Amityville Horror" stars two of the screen's most compelling young performers, James Brolin and Margot Kidder, as George and Kathleen Lutz, who with their family, were tormented by a series of inexplicable events that convinced them that their "dream house" was possessed by something terribly evil. Also starring in what may very well be the most bone chilling story of the decade, is Academy Award winning actor Rod Steiger. The screenplay, written by Sandor Stern, and directed by Stuart Rosenberg, vividly describes the 28 day ordeal suffered by the Lutzes before they fled the now famous house in Amityville, Long Island.

James Broim, Victim of Terror In "The Amityville Horror"

James Brolin, one of the screen's most charismatic leading men, stars in one of the most terrifying dramas ever filmed, American International's "The Amityville Horror". Based on Jay Anson's runaway non-fiction

best seller, "The Amityville Horror" is the suspense-filled story of the agonies endured by George Lutz and his family when they moved into what was to be their "dream house" in rural Amityville, Long Island, N.Y. Starring with Brolin, as his wife is Margot Kidder, and Rod Steiger, the Academy Award winning actor who portrays a priest trying to help the couple. "The Amityville Horror" called for all of the strength that Brolin, a rugged outdoorsman, could muster. The psychological as well as physical endurance required by Sandor Stern's screenplay and Stuart Rosenberg's direction, would have felled an ordinary man. Off-screen, however, Brolin works his 230 acre ranch in Northern California. For hobbies, he rides a motorcycle, is a licensed pilot and a race car driver. As an actor, Brolin rose to prominence as Dr. Steve Kiley in TV's "Marcus Welby,M.D.," for which he won an Emmy. His many motion picture credits include "Von Ryan's Express," "Morituri,"Fantastic Voyage," "Skyjacked" and recently, "Capricorn One." He actively participates in competition racing. In the recent Long Beach Grand Prix Brolin raced against such other celebrities as Clint Eastwood, Bruce Jenner and Kitty O'Neil, holder of the women's land speed record at 518 mph. "The Amityville Horror," on top of the hard cover nonfiction best-sellers for nearly a year, is now in its 22nd printing as a Bantam Books paperback with sales approaching 5 million copies. The film was produced by Ronald Saland and Elliot Geisinger, with American International's president and board chairman, Samuel Z. Arkoff as executive producer. Click here for more
