The Game is Over
1966 Jane Fonda
A young Canadian girl, Renee weds industrialist Alexandre Saccard, who can use her money, to escape from her family and the consequences of an unfortunate love affair. Maxime Seccard's son by a first marriage comes to live with them. In time, the friendship between Renee and Maxime turns to love, but Renee's passionate response to the reckless Maxime frightens him. When Saccard learns of the situation, he sets out to destroy his wife, in a manner which will insure that he retains the wealth she has brought with her. A weakling, Maxime becomes a pawn in his father's game; his only chance to escape Saccard and Renee is through marriage with Anne Sernet, a banker's daughter, and even this furthers Saccard's financial interests. Renee, with her vanished dream of a passionate love affair, is completely defeated in the game Saccard has played with her. Running Time: 96 Minutes
