Directly after her marriage to Bill Burke, Evelyn Brown runs home to her mother. She cannot explain her action, but she rebuffs her bridegroom's attempts to see her. Soon afterward she is placed in a rest home. Burke seeks help from Dr. Donald Andrews, under whose care the bride is placed. The doctor has a long talk with Burke in an effort to find a reason for the bride's strange inhibitions, and later summons the girl's mother for a conference. He discusses the girl's life with her, and learns the two have been close companions, as well as just mother and daughter, for the many years following Evelyn's parents' separation. The doctor accuses the mother of being too dominant, and being responsible for the girl's inability to adjust herself to marital living. Only after the doctor convinces the girl there is nothing wrong physically with her mother-that her mother does not have heart trouble and will not become ill if left to live alone-does the girl return to her bridegroom to enjoy a normal, happy life.
