Dirty Harry
1971 Clint Eastwood
Teaser Storyline for Dirty Harry From a rooftop a sniper takes careful aim and slowly squeezes the trigger. A splash of scarlet spurts from a girl's shoulder and she sinks into a swimming pool. The killer, who signs himself Scorpio, demands $100,000 from the police, threatening other deaths, a priest or a black. Harry Callahan (CLINT EASTWOOD), of the San Francisco Police Department, is advised by Lt. Bressler (HARRY GUARDINO) and the Mayor (JOHN VERNON) that they are going to pay off the killer extortionist. Against his wishes, Harry is assigned a partner, Chico (RENI SANTONI). A police helicopter spots the sniper (ANDY ROBINSON) as he is getting another victim in his sights from another rooftop. He escapes. The police discover a young black shot to death by the sniper. On Harry's hunch that his ego will bring the killer back to the same district, he and Chico stake out on a rooftop. They spot the killer on a distant roof they open fire, he returns it,

but again, makes his escape. Another note from the sniper advises the police that he has kidnapped a 14-year-old girl and that she is buried alive with a little bit of oxygen. He will let her die if he doesn't receive $200,000. Harry goes to the Marina to deliver the ransom money. Although strictly forbidden to do so, Chico goes along with a walkie-talkie keeping his distance as Harry follows complex instructions before he is accosted by the sniper at the base of an enormous cross in Mt. Davidson Park. The sniper wears a stocking mask. He cracks Harry over the skull, viciously kicks him, and says he is going to let the girl die. As he starts to do away with Harry, Chico emerges from the bushes and is wounded in the gun battle that follows. Harry manages to drive a switchblade into the killer's thigh. Harry finds the doctor at an emergency hospital where the killer has sought help for his knife wound. The doctor believes the man lives in the keeper's quarters at Kezar Stadium. That's where Harry catches him: in the glare of lights in the middle of the deserted playing field. He is not only shot by Harry, but the policeman beats the wounded man in an attempt to learn the whereabouts of the kidnapped girl. That's where Harry makes his mistake. The District Attorney accuses him of torturing a suspect, denying medical attention and legal counsel. The girl's buried body is found. With the killer released, Harry begins harassing and tailing him day and night. In a warehouse one night the killer pays a big brute $200 to beat him up. At the hospital he accuses Harry of the brutal mauling. What Harry has been predicting now comes true. The killer is about to do it again ... Running Time: 103 Minutes Aspect Ratio: 2.35:1
