(Leigh Christian), who are the only two members of the tribe not having pearlized eyes. The reason for this is that the elders of the tribe always mate with an outsider, to produce a child who can mix with the outside world and remain unnoticed. Nereus sees the opportunity to mate Syrene with Vic, Logan or Eddie, so as to ensure the next generation. However, Syrene's mother died in childbirth and Syrene herself is frightened of the same fate. While arguing back and forth, they show the expedition from Manila the pearl beds, which now have no pearls in them since the tribe has taken them all. Syrene therefore has to replace the pearls in the oysters so that the expedition can re-find them, which they do with great enthusiasm.

Finally, Syrene mates with Vic when forced by her father who threatens to kill them if she doesn't.

In pursuit of archaeological knowledge, Kathy narrowly escapes death by piranha fish, tribal spears and the throttling grip of Syrene, who has become jealous because of Vic's attentions to Kathy. In the fight between the two girls Syrene is killed, which means the eventual death of the tribe, since none of the others can mix with the outside world. The young braves of the tribe try to slaughter the expedition which barely escapes by blowing up the tribal temple as a diversion for their escape by sea. in the scuffle of getting on board the boat to leave the island, the pearl chest is accidentally knocked overboard, so the expedition leaves with nothing more than it came with, except the archaeological knowledge of a tribe descended from Atlantis.
